David Tudor, Canaries B&W

7", Dolor Del Estamago 1995

As part of the week-long Meizése-Fest in Oklahoma City there was a certain artist whose abstract approach to music took everyone by surprise. This show was recorded at the Beller Hall and the excerpts that you hear were coordinated by Graham Hyfitz. At the end of the performance the entire hall was on it's feet roaring.

The sounds coupled with Bill Viola's "Swampland" video was to evoke an atmosphere of Mary Pickford's early 1900 film "Sparrows". The entire hall saw only the glowing set as the hinges of reality tore itself up into a confetti of an alligator and spanish moss in black and white hell followed by a standing ovation. David Tudor is known mostly for his work with Cage, Brown, Boulez, Feldman, Stockhausen, Duchamp, Mumma, and Christian Wolff. His solo performances are absolutely unto themselves in their extremeness.
